Landscape

Corsione lies in the northwestern part of the Astigiano.

It is about 6 km from Asti, the provincial capital.

History

The first written records referring to Corsione date back to 941.

The town passed under the dominion of the Marquises of Monferrato, the Gonzaga, and the Savoy.

During the Fascist period, it was merged with the Municipality of Villa San Secondo.

It regained its autonomy in 1947.

Typical wines of the area include Barbera and Grignolino.

Furthermore, important is the production of hazelnuts, fruit, and honey.

To be seen

There were two castles in Corsione: few traces remain of the major one, near the rectory house.

The minor castle, instead, stood near the Church of St. Mary of Aniceto (Chiesa di Santa Maria di Aniceto).

Moreover, worth seeing is the parish Church of St. Christopher (Chiesa di San Cristoforo) and the Brotherhood of St. Michael the Archangel (Oratory of St. Sebastian) — Confraternita di San Michele Arcangelo (Oratorio di San Sebastiano).

Curiosity

A legend is linked to Corsione's signature dish: apple pie.

It is told that in the 14th century, after a particularly harsh winter, a severe famine hit the village.

Only apple plants were saved from Nature's whims: the fruit, kneaded with eggs and dry bread, was then served as a dessert to children at Easter time.
