Montemagno Monferrato lies in the northeast area of Astigiano.

It is about 17 km from the provincial capital, Asti.

History

The first historical records of Montemagno Monferrato date back to the year 1000.

The town developed around its imposing castle according to a characteristic medieval layout.

Montemagno Monferrato dedicates to bread, every end of May, the event Pane al Pane (Bread to Bread).

The town is also part of the Città del Pane association, which promotes the recognition and appreciation of breads throughout Italy.

To be seen

The Castle of Montemagno (or the Counts Calvi di Bergolo), privately owned, appears today as a splendid country residence.

In the historic center, you can see La Casa sul Portone, the last gate of the medieval city walls.

Absolutely to see, in the area, is the Baroque staircase that provides access to the parish church.

A few steps away is the Church of the Brotherhood of St. Michael (Chiesa della Confraternita di San Michele).

Moreover, worth visiting are the Church of Santa Maria della Cava (Chiesa di Santa Maria della Cava) and the Romanesque “jewel” of the town: the remains of the Church of Saints Victor and Corona (Chiesa dei Santi Vittore e Corona).

Lastly, the Panoramic road behind the Castle where a panoramic telescope is installed and, in the locality of Vallinò, the Church of Our Lady of Vallinò (Chiesa della Madonna di Vallinò) are worth mentioning.

The town's municipal administration in 2023 requested and obtained from the Regione Piemonte a new name for the municipality: from Montemagno to Montemagno Monferrato.
