For some it is an escarpment, for some a tale of the metamorphosis of a landscape, for others a work of nature's art.
This wall, 20 × 8 meters, tells an adventure of millions of years, protagonist Marmorito, the beginning about 260 million years ago, in the Triassic.
Then, on the earth's surface, a single continent emerges, the Pangea. Under its surface volcanic lavas press, cause fractures. 220 million years the pressure is such that the crust is torn and split into two plates (according to the theory of plate tectonics, the continents would be large plates in movement): the Laurasia (North America, Eurasia) and the Gondwana (South America, Africa, Australia, Antarctica); between them the water creeps, an ocean is born: the Tethys.
Italy and Piedmont lie on the bottom of this ocean.
In the Jurassic, Africa separates from Gondwana, in the Cretaceous, North America from Eurasia. The Ligurian-Piedmont ocean is formed in our area.
