We are in 936 d.C. in Valle Cervino in Fontanile.
Here the Aleramici clashed with the Saracens to defend the lands of Monferrato.
The final battle took place in a spot called "Batalee Campus" or battlefield.
The place names, still in use, that sprang from that clash were: ALERAMUS (camp of the Aleramici) MALI HOMINES (bad Christian camp of the Saracens), PASSUM PAIANI (ford on the Rio Cervino passed by the fugitives), CAMPUS BATALEE (armed clash between Aleramo and Saracens), CAMPUS RESIS (surrender of the Saracens and Mali Homines).
The walls tell... | Project information
The municipal project "I muri raccontano..." (The walls tell...) is a major camouflage of the town created by Luigi Amerio: through pictorial art, the walls and house facades represent Fontanile's past from the Middle Ages to the present day.
