A large canal filled with water, 150 meters long and thirty meters wide, surrounded the town.
It was made of non-spring water and was commonly used to water the cattle, wash clothes and wet the hemp before its use.
In winter, when everything was frozen, it turned into an ice rink but other times, like on the day of the patronal feast, it was instead possible to get on a boat ride for an affordable price.
The walls tell... | Project information
The municipal project "I muri raccontano..." (The walls tell...) is a major camouflage of the town created by Luigi Amerio: through pictorial art, the walls and house facades represent Fontanile's past from the Middle Ages to the present day.
