Appointed Knight of Labor on July 26, 1906, with decree no. 261.
Of humble origins, he began to work in the F.lli Cova oenological plant in Castiglione d'Asti.
Thanks to his intelligence and tenacity, he quickly became technical director. Meanwhile, in his spare time he studied assiduously, acquiring a remarkable literary and scientific culture.
He became a writer on the subject of vine growing, much appreciated even by experts in the field. Later he was appointed director of the Gancia company, of which he also became a partner. Under his direction, the factory developed production to a considerable extent.
The “Gancia” sparkling wines were able to compete with the best foreign products. He was a member, as a municipal representative, of the Board of Directors of the Asti wine station.
In Piedmont he was held in such high regard that rarely any initiative was undertaken in the field of wine production without his involvement.
He gained the respect and esteem of all, not only for his industrial merits, but also for the way he treated his workers.
